From the beginning, this website has been designed for Zack and Ken.
It is because of these two boys and their parents that I discovered I had the knack for child photography.
There may be elements, such as the
reference
section that don't directly relate to them, but the site is dedicated to them and they are used in most of the content and tutorials, usually as examples.
Welcome to the Official Website of Zachary and Kenny
Throughout this website, you will mainly see images of two boys.
These boys are Zachary and Kenny, and are the basis for most of the content.
This website is being developed for them and they are used in nearly all the tutorials and examples.
Zachary and Kenny are my two main models.
They are the sons of two of my friends.
The boys are two adventurous brothers that are curious about the world around them.
The boys have grown up with a camera in their face so, asking them to pose for a photograph, is no big deal.
I had been taking pictures of them off and on for a couple of months.
One day, while visiting, their parents and I decided to ask them if they'd like to go professional.
That meant they'd be getting paid to have their pictures taken and be getting paid for selling the pictures for use in advertising or whatever.
Naturally, they didn't have a problem with the
getting paid
part of the deal.
Up to this point, I had only been taking occasional pictures of them.
Chapter One of our “Footsteps Through Time” illustrated story series exists because I wanted to see if I could handle an actual photo shoot.
My specialty had previously been close-up nature photography.
I had very little experience with moving subjects and I needed to see if I could manage.
My current camera wasn't up to the challenge -- it was too slow to keep up with the fast-moving boys.
By the end of the day, I felt I had done alright, but in order to know for sure, I was going to need a new camera.
Chapter Two is the result of testing the new camera.
We did two rounds of photos that day -- presenting the boys with assorted pool toys to use as props.
My primary goal was to tackle stopping motion.
I believe I succeeded and I felt that I was ready for the challenge I had given myself.
Chapter Three was an unofficial photo shoot.
I took the boys to a nearby conservation area.
I was already comfortable with the natural forested surroundings and the boys weren't confined to the swimming pool.
It was a great idea because, as it turned out, the boys were both nature lovers like myself and, giving them the experience of being somewhere they've never been before, allowed me to get some great images -- and video.
Since then, we have done countless photo shoots at the conservation area as well as other nearby parks, trails, and rivers.
We were accumulating quite a database of images and we tried to decide how to make use of them.
Realizing what the images actually represented, we came up with the idea of
Footsteps Through Time
, our own featured
illustrated story
